The Voyage Home using the Sun's Magic.

Shining Brightly Where Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Sulu, chekov and Scotty have boldly gone before. The core temperature of the sun is 15 million'c with a visible photosphere temperature of less than 6000'c. Its safe to say humanoids react badly to radiation, so if your planning a little space adventure....stay away from the sun! Unless you're equipped with a starship thats got forcefields and shields. Brilliant! Now engage the impulse engines with scanners on maximum intensity. Your scientific data will confirm it takes 10 million years for the heat generated in the suns core to reach the photosphere. Our star is 109 times wider than earth and 1.4 million km wide. The sun's gravity is 38 times that of earth! A million sized earths could fit inside this magnificent hot ball of fire which will radiate for another five billion years!

Remember the unfortunate ferengi scientist Dr Rega? Here was a guy on a mission. He was so eager to prove to his scientific peers that he was not just another dumb ferengi greedy for gold. "Metaphasic shielding is a reality" boomed Dr Rega to his scientific colleagues. Hmm We'll see......was their attitude. But he was determined to prove his scientific theories and make them a reality. The ferengi proposed to fly a ship into the corona of a star by using Metaphasic shielding developed by Dr Rega to protect any ship adapted to use it. Only as luck had it he never lived to see the fruits of his labour. What a tragedy.

The Voyage Home

The Voyage Home is exciting adventure that involves an ingenious piece of timetravel using a star and rescuing whales from extinction. The original crew from the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701, go back in time on a clapped out Klingon Bird of Prey. The crews faith rests with Mr Spock time computations after the vulcan is reunited with his katra who makes the best guess possible. Bones is doubtful so he demands of kirk,

" Are you sure this is such s bright idea?"
"What do you mean?" answers Kirk calmly
"I mean him, back at his post like nothing happened. I don't know if you've got the whole picture but Spocks not exactly working on all thrusters!!" retorts a worked up McCoy

"It'll come back to him" reassures Kirk with doubt written all over his face.
"Are you sure?" presses McCoy
Kirks looking lost now.
"Thats what i thought." An anguished McCoy leaves Kirks side.

Kirk seemed to take Mc Coys antics in his stride. Its a pity McCoy didn't prescribe himself some of his own medicine! A hypospray or two is good for you! Doc! It would have done wonders for his stress levels. Uhuru which means freedom in Swahili was at her communications station.

Sulu was at the helm and Chekov was at the weapons station. The plan was to warp the Bounty around the sun accounting for time computation, warp capability acceleration and deceleration, ship mass, etc and of course most important of all,

" making the best guess that i can." explained Spock earnestly to Dr McCoy at a critical moment. Scotty held the ship together in the engine room with the re-energized Klingon crystals. One of his funniest lines in Star Trek IV is when he informs Kirk,

" Admiral I have replaced the Klingon food packs, they were giving me a sour stomach!"
" O, Is that what it was?" Clearly Kirk was miles away only he didn't care for the details.
One solar flare colliding with the Bounty could have sent them off course but the ship survived. The slingshot as Dr McCoy aptly put it was successful and so too was the movie. It was a hit! Its been hailed as one of the most popular and successful of the movies.

Star Trek Generations starred the next generation crew, the Duras sisters, Captain Kirk, Scotty and Chekov. There was also a mad El Aurian physicist called Soran. We all know Geordi. For such a smart guy, Geordi visor actually betrayed him and the Enterprise NCC 1701-D. Soran removed his visor and ingeniously rigged it during the film. When Geordi returned to the Enterprise his vision was restored only the Chief Engineer was now a spy for the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D's enemies! It was so weird seeing him going around the ship like this.

" Human females are so ugly, Uggh how repulsive" replied the duras sisters completely nauseated.
" He must be the only engineer in starfleet that doesn't go to engineering"

The hotblooded Duras Sisters were truly angry now. Georgi's wanderings eventually lead him to Main Engineering much to the bloodthirsty delight of the sisters. His visor transmits the Enterprises shield modulation of 257.4 and like a hot knife through butter, the poor Enterprise is wrecked by the Klingon bird of preys torpedoes. This movie was clever in its use of technology against stars with their orbiting planets being wiped out in the aftershock. The fact Soran rationalised massacring millions to Captain Picard proved the El Aurian was quite mad.

Soran's objective was to alter the gravitational pull of a star which would then redirect an interstellar space phenomena which Guinan called the nexus or energy ribbon. This nexus was a heavenly place to live in where time couldn't creep up on you. Time simply had no meaning in the Nexus. By launching a rocket into the suns core, the direction of the energy ribbon was altered to a neighbouring planet or location, in time to carry the El Aurian to a new plain of happy existence. Killing a star did have an unfortunate side effect though..... In its aftermath followed a level 12 shockwave wiping out every living entity on neighbouring planets, blowing entire worlds to stardust. Lovely chap, Soran.

World of Science And Fiction

Greetings! curious and eager fans of Science Fiction. Welcome to Star Trek Sci Fi Blog. Escape with me to my world of science and fiction. What does Science Fiction mean in our lives? Star Trek has a positive influence in peoples lives, It explores a hopeful future, as opposed to gloom and doom, and general mayhem. Its story arcs do have their fair share of shape shifters and con artists, murderers and madmen, powerful beings, a giant lizard and tribble critters.

I have always treasured the "science" and detail in the fiction of Star trek. While I realise this is tv entertainment, alot happens in space. Astronauts work in space carrying out scientific research, satellites and the International Space station require maintenance. Space exploration probes are launched from earth into the uncharted parameters of the universe to visit other planets which help scientists make new discoveries.

Along the way space data and images are transmitted back to earth. Interstellar space bodies, expanding stars and collapsing stars, merging galaxies, timetravel etc are all related cosmic components of science. Lets not forget the technology used to observe the cosmos, like the U.S.S. Enterprise in Star Trek (hehe) and NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.

Star Trek and Cosmology will motivate man today and far into the future. Scotty, Geordi, O'Brien, B'Elanna and Trip are always busy in engineering. Its a known fact, Star Trek fans inspired to become engineers and scientists have studied up on their technical journals just like their heroes Mr Spock and Scotty of course!

In The Paradise Syndrome in Star Trek TOS, Stardate 4842.6 the USS Enterprise NCC 1701 managed to hold off an approaching asteroid threatening a planet long enough for them to fix the technology on the planet and save the day. Kirk is found by local natives suffering from amnesia who believe hes their God, Kirok. Wouldn't it be great if Earth had a deflector oblelisk to steer trouble away from our little world? As it turns out Kirok weds the beautiful Miramanee native with Spock returning having deciphered how the malfunctioning deflector works. Good old Spocky restores Kirks mind but the sad news is Miramanee dies from the stoning when things turned ugly with the upset villagers on the Preservers planet below. Star Trek has touched on these exhilarating wonders of the universe in a positive, unified and remarkable fashion.

The technology used is awe inspiring. Just look at that mighty federation starship, the USS Enterprise returning to spacedock. The second of her kind to bear the name USS Enterprise NCC 1701. Well armed and fast, the first Enterprise is famous and was launched in 2245 from the San Francisco yards orbiting Earth. She was commanded by Captain Robert April and then Christopher Pike. This starship achieved legendary heights under the stewardship of Captain James Tiberius Kirk during its five year mission which lasted for three seasons. Gene Roddenberry's classic Star Trek gave us 79 voyages of unique cosmic science fiction, going boldly with fun, imagination with aliens in the depts of space. Imagine being a passenger looking out and wondering, whats going to happen next. Will we fall out of the sky or hit the spacedock? Will my Romulan Ale spill? On the other hand you could be quite relaxed and looking forward to meeting your relatives or friends.

The crew are probably excited about shoreleave, Scott's happy to let the starfleet core of engineers takeover and retune the engines leaving him in peace to study his technical manuals. Kirks getting ready to become one with a rock. Uhura is meeting secretly with Mr Spock! Naughty little devils! Hunger and starvation are no more. People seek to better themselves through education and not by the Ferengi way. The accumulation of wealth. To quote the Ferengi's First Rule of Acquisition. "Once you have their money, you never give it back"!

Thanks for reading this far and keep on Star Trekking!
