HOMAGE TO STAR TREK

Stephen Harrison stopped by today and figured we'd like his article because of the Star Trek connection. Hes a technology transaction attorney and trekker, yessss! another one! Heres what he wrote for us

(CORTANA HALO)
WHY HELLO HAL..... I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU!

"The homage to "Star Trek" is well-deserved
You don’t have to be at all familiar with “Star Trek” to recognize "computer" as the right choice. But the Trek connection only sweetens the deal.
“Star Trek” televised the first interracial kiss. It inspired a generation of scientists. There are female “Trek” captains and admirals. The show predicted technology such as tablet computers, 3-D printing, sliding doors and holograms. As Stephen Poe has written, “The fact is, never in the history of any entertainment medium has there ever been a story, an idea, a situation, a set of characters, or a theme that has approached the magnitude or impact of ‘Star Trek."

HELLO CORTANA ... HOW ARE YOU MAKING THE POLARITY
 OF MY TURBO OSCILLATORS
FLUCTUATE?

Curiously female AI "assistants" seem to reinforce the stereotype of women as subservients, Alexa, Cortana and Siri in Stephen's article but what I wonder.....

What would Space Odyssey's Hal9000 or Star Trek's Nomad have said to the Cortana A I in person I wonder?

Live Long and Prosper!

Hello, baby! Nice circuits...
So true that Trek has had the biggest impact of any show. We wouldn't even have Star Wars without it.

Some of Trek technology influenced those who would eventually go on to invent it. Like MP3s...

I wonder what other programs have had such an impact on research and development? If any.

Yeah she is a beauty ain't she Alex, hehe except she's not my creation as much as I'd love to fully exploit Cortana's positronic matrix and damn fine voluptuous rounded curves and smoking hot body, I mean mind...

Well said Liz and I'm sure they're on the blog somewhere, the medical tricorder being one. Very interesting question EC, you might have to ask the Oracle about that one - conversely check out the long and short range scanners.

That is a pretty profound impact on future technology. And me personally, I prefer a female voice for my technology, but that has nothing to do with subservience. I just find a soft female voice more soothing than some dude squawking in my ear all day long.

I get what you mean Brandon. Todays techno race to is seeing gadgets take over our lives, so whenever you want than shower - its only natural you'd want to share the shower with a soft relaxing female voice, lol. The alternatives.... well, em error, error does not compute, system failure.... must sterilize
